Veterans Coliseum Preservation Foundation Formed to Safeguard Historic Landmark and Honor Veterans’ Legacy

EVANSVILLE, IN – April 22, 2025 – The Veterans Coliseum Preservation Foundation (VCPF) has been formally established to lead the preservation, restoration, and revitalization of the historic Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Coliseum, located at 300 Court Street in downtown Evansville. Operated for the benefit of the Vanderburgh County Board of Commissioners, the Foundation is committed to ensuring that the Coliseum remains a vibrant civic space and enduring tribute to the men and women who have served our nation.

The Coliseum, a government-owned landmark under the stewardship of the Board of Commissioners of Vanderburgh County, has long stood as a community gathering place and a monument to local veterans. With deep historical roots and architectural significance, the building holds an irreplaceable place in Evansville’s cultural and civic identity.

Preserving the Past, Inspiring the Future

The Veterans Coliseum Preservation Foundation’s mission is to preserve, protect, and promote the historic Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Coliseum as a lasting tribute to the bravery and sacrifices of our veterans. Through thoughtful restoration, community engagement, and educational initiatives, the Foundation seeks to honor the building’s legacy while adapting it to serve the evolving needs of the public.

Community-Driven Preservation Efforts

The Foundation will engage in local fundraising, grant applications, and strategic partnerships. Although the organization has submitted its application for 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, it currently operates under fiscal sponsorship with the Old Courthouse Foundation, Inc., allowing for tax-deductible donations during the interim.

Community members and supporters will soon be able to learn more and get involved through the Foundation’s official website, www.veteranscoliseum.org, set to go live at the beginning of May. Donations will be accepted online or by check through the County Commissioners’ Office.

As the Veterans Coliseum Preservation Foundation grows, its vision remains rooted in honoring the past while building a future where the Coliseum continues to serve as a cornerstone of civic life in Vanderburgh County.
